Graduation

Here is a Step-by-Step guide to all we know for graduation. Your go-to resource for commencement info is www.nau.edu/commencement.

As a Master of Social Work student are welcomed and encouraged to come to commencement and the hooding ceremony. We are honored for the opportunity to celebrate you in person!

SBS Commencement takes place in the NAU Skydome

Commencement is where you will wear your cap and gown. It is not limited to the amount of family that are welcome in the Skydome to cheer you on.

MSW Hooding Ceremony: Date and time for our hooding ceremony is announced by the Social Work department.

A Hooding Ceremony is a separate event from commencement and is a time to dress up, not in your cap and gown, bring your Master Hood and have the hood placed on you by faculty of the department of social work. Family is welcome to attend this as well.

Applying for Graduation:

Download your Master of Social Work Program of Study. This needs to filled out thoroughly. You will not have completed all the courses that you will list, therefore some aspects may be blank. That is OK. Here are a few other tips:

  • NAU ID is a 7 digit number.
  • Term of Admission is Fall or Spring 20XX
  • Replacement Course is only filled out if you transferred or replaced any courses (you would know) or leave it blank.
  • T/P/I/A is explained at the bottom of the form and for most can be left blank.
  • Kendra Garland is your advisor
  • SW 652 should be listed under section I on the last row. Both Program of Study’s refer to an AIS requirement, this is now SW 652. During this transition you were approved to take AIS instead of SW 652, list your AIS course in this last row of Section I.
  • Your two cognate courses will go into section II. Nothing else.
  • Your program of study needs to match your transcript exactly.

Once you have completed the Program of Study, you can send it to Kendra Garland, your Academic Success Coordinator, (Kendra.Garland@nau.edu) for the department approval. Once your Program of Study has been approved, I will send it back to you. Then, you will upload the documents into LOUIE which is outlined in the Step-by-Step guide under #3.

After uploading this program of study, in your final semester, you may have to change a course. That is OK. This document will just need to be updated and resubmitted prior to graduation. So please keep that in mind. This happens and the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies understands, however your transcript must match this Program of Study exactly for you to ultimately be approved for graduation.

The application fee is $35.
